Fundació Emys works in research, management and education of forest open spaces and wetland, to promote the conservation of biodiversity and a sustainable development.
We work with land owners, land managers, experts and land users to promote a long term biodiversity conservation where the different land actors take part from its sustainable management.
The Foundation's main objective is the study, protection and dissemination of the natural and cultural heritage linked to the natural environment by means of land stewardship, with special focus on the wetlands.
The Foundation will accomplish its foundational goals by promoting the environmental volunteering networks, and specially promoting the conservation of the natural heritage among the youth and grups at risk of social exclusion.
The project of Fundació Emys began in 1987 with the association ADEPAR, a group of young naturalists from Riudarenes that started working together for the conservation of wetlands with the presence of the European pond terrapin (Emys orbicularis).
In 2003, thanks to the support of Riudarenes' town hall and some private patrons, the project evolves towards the creation of Fundació Emys, for the conservation of the natural heritage of Catalonia.
