LOAD CAPACITY CALCULATION
The number of people that natural space can accommodate in a single day without damaging its natural values is called carrying capacity. Two calculations are performed to obtain the final value. In order, physical load capacity (CCF) and actual load capacity (CCR) are considered.
Physical load capacity (CCF) assesses the number of people who can access the space based on its surface area and the time range in which it is visited. In addition, it also considers the personal surface and the average time that is usually invested in the space. With this first approach, you can set a threshold that should not be exceeded in any case if you want to ensure a minimum of comfort for visitors.
The calculation of the physical load provides us with relevant information, but when assessing how many people can access a space, other measures must also be taken into account, such as the impact that visitors have. This is why a second calculation is made: the actual load capacity (CCR). This second index allows us to give a more concise value than the CCF, as it modulates it based on various indicators of vulnerability, management measures and the state of conservation of the space. Each of these is given a% importance based on the objectives of the capacity calculation.
For more details on how the calculation is performed, what are the values to be obtained and through which methodologies, you can consult the Systematized model of analysis and management of public use: Management of overcrowding in gorges in the Girona region.
Below you will find a form to be able to calculate the load capacity only by filling in the fields included in the process of carrying out the public use management study of overcrowded spaces.
